Mini Lathe Project

“Introduction to Manufacturing Processes is an integrated learning module suitable for students with little or no prior industrial training. It introduces fundamental practical knowledge including workshop safety, literacy in engineering documentation conventions, and theory and procedures in various manufacturing processes. As an introductory training module, its content focuses primarily on fundamental manufacturing processes.

Traditional training brings students to a desired level of technical competence through individual process oriented practice and theories. To attain the goal and objectives of “Training for Creativity and Innovation by Product and Process Design" this “Mini-Lathe Turning Machine" acts as a theme to integrate some diverse basic manufacturing processes and introduces certain high level cognitive knowledge in a seamless coherent exercise.

As a comprehensive practical training, it is essential to ensure the students have balanced development in breath and depth. Each student has to go through every selected manufacturing process for a predetermined duration. Besides, students are expected to develop additional calibers in this module such as understanding interrelationship among processes, work flow design to achieve specific form and performance requirements, mechanical principles in motion control and transfer, significance of dimensional and geometric tolerance, and practice of planning and collaboration.
